About the BCDF
Welcome to the Behaviour Change Development Framework (BCDF), a framework developed by the Workforce Training and Education Directorate of NHS England. The framework aims to equip the workforce with the skills and tools required to encourage healthier lifestyles, improve health outcomes, and foster sustainable health behaviour change across diverse settings. The framework integrates practical guidance, competencies and learning to enable the workforce to effectively apply behaviour change skills.
The Behaviour Change Development Framework serves as a comprehensive resource for health and care workforces, educators and organisations seeking to build capacity and capability in behaviour change. The key features of BCDF are:
- Assessment: Take the level assessment o find out what level of behaviour change you our your workforce should be trained at.
- Competency: Find out what learning and competencies are required for each level of the BCDF.
- Toolkit: Access a range of tools and resources to help you develop and deliver behaviour change.
The framework is designed for a wider audience, including:
- Health and care practitioners across all disciplines and levels who are delivering behaviour change interventions to people.
- Managers and leaders in all health and social care sectors who manage services or front-line workforces.
- Educators and trainers developing curricula in behaviour change.
- Policy makers and service designers looking to integrate behaviour change into public health initiatives.
We invite you to explore the framework, share with your teams and organisations, and use it to support the development of our health and care workforces.
